Terms of Service
These terms cover the self-hosted Mothership host license ($20/year after trial; spinoff promo may discount year one) sold via Stripe Checkout. The iOS/PWA softphone is free. This page is a customer-facing draft aligned with commercial-legal-review.md; counsel may update it.
What you buy
- A signed host license for one Mothership instance (one private family hub), renewable yearly.
- Access to licensed update channels while the license is active or in grace.
- Softphone clients (web / free iOS app) remain free; they connect to your hub.
What PhoneHome is not
- Not a telephone company. Stage 1 does not connect to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and cannot place carrier 911 / emergency calls.
- Not a substitute for emergency service. House phones on an analog adapter that dial 911 may ring a parent in the household — not a public-safety answering point. Keep a real phone or cell for emergencies.
- Not advertising-supported; we do not sell call content or mine conversations.
Your responsibilities
- You operate the Mothership (or choose a managed offering if offered separately).
- Parents/guardians create and control child accounts and approved contacts (Circles).
- You are responsible for who you invite and for complying with local privacy law (including COPPA where applicable).
- Do not use PhoneHome for harassment, unlawful surveillance, or to evade emergency services.
Software license
PhoneHome server software is offered under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (or later). The paid host license is a commercial entitlement for updates and product features described at purchase — it does not replace AGPL obligations if you distribute or network-serve modified versions.
Payments, renewal, refunds
Billing is handled by Stripe on behalf of Trevor Larsen Marketing LLC. See Refunds & cancellation for renewal, grace, and refund policy.
Peering & spinoff
Starting your own Mothership (including promo OWNMS5) does not automatically
keep Circles calling family who stayed on another hub. Cross-hub calling requires a
peer invite completed by operators on both Motherships.
